Norway is waiting for the EU on updated Moderna vaccine – Dagsavisen
The British Medicines Agency (MHRA) announced on Monday that the adjusted Moderna vaccine can now be given as a booster dose to adults as the third authority’s requirements for safety, quality and effectiveness.
Whether the vaccine is also approved in Norway is up to the EU’s Medicines Agency (EMA)
– The same vaccine is now being evaluated by the EU’s Medicines Agency (EMA). We are waiting for a decision from there, says Sigurd Hortemo, senior physician in the Norwegian Medicines Agency to NTB.
He says many companies are working on the development of bivalent vaccines that target the original Wuhan variant plus an omicron variant.
– Work has come the furthest with a vaccine against the Wuhan + BA1 variant, but vaccines aimed at Wuhan + BA4/5 are also a possibility, it is this combination that the FDA recommends, Hortemo says.
Sky News reports that this is the first updated vaccine of its kind – specifically targeting both omicron and earlier variants – to be approved anywhere in the world.
