Menlo Park, California – Chats, messages will be encrypted starting in 2023.
If everything is true, from 2023 the messages in Messenger and Instagram will finally be encrypted, and Meta employees will not be able to read them either.
Meta announced plans to encrypt all messages on Facebook Messenger and Instagram from 2023. Optional end-to-end encryption will be available on these platforms, but it will be general – reports leet.hu.
This means that Meta employees will not be able to read sent messages or listen to voice calls, they will not even go through the company’s servers.
Of course, it is still possible to report problematic chat partners, in which case the company receives a copy of the exchange of messages.
Users will be able to make their own copies of encrypted chats. It will be possible to store them on Meta’s servers, but it will also be possible to save them to other cloud services.
By the way, Mark Zuckerberg announces in 2019 that he wants end-to-end encryption in all his chat services. Partly due to the resistance of the investigative authorities, the process is moving slowly, so they can’t snoop so easily either.
