Klimkin explained why Ukraine delayed the introduction of a visa regime with Russians — TSN Exclusive — tsn.ua
The former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pavlo Klimkin, is sure that the biometric visa regime from the Russian Federation should have been introduced earlier.
However, according to the former diplomat, because of family ties and the likely negative impact on the eastern and southern regions the Ukrainian authorities dragged their feet with the adoption of a decision.
The former speaker of the parliament, Pavlo Klimkin, said this in an interview with TSN.
“Pulled (with the adoption of a decision on the introduction of a visa regime for Russians – ed.) due to the fact that it was thought that it had a negative effect on the eastern or southern regions. And that is why these proposals were considered for a very long time. The biometric visa regime from the Russian Federation should have been introduced earlier. And, of course, it was necessary to follow the Russians very hard,” said Klimkin.
He emphasized that Ukraine must strictly control all citizens of the Russian Federationto whom the government still grants a Ukrainian visa.
“They (Western countries – ed.) well understand that this is an anti-colonial war that has been going on since the time of the Soviet Union. just left many connections, family and so on. And they understand very well that it was difficult to implement quickly (visa regime – ed.). Nevertheless, visa control at the border was introduced. And that’s really the main thing. We have to control all Russians on our territory, and this is obvious,” explained Klimkin.
what, from July 1, the visa regime for Russians began to operate in Ukraine. From now on, Russians cannot come to Ukraine without an invitation, for entry they need a foreign passport and the passport data of the party, which they must also have with them at least 52 thousand UAH.
