Doña Urraca and El Cid conquer Barcelona
Overwhelmed and overwhelmed by the extraordinary reception that Doña Urraca, El Cid and their ten big heads have had in Barcelona. This could be summarized in this way the visit that 40 members of Capitonis Durii have made this bridge to the city of Barcelona invited by The Giants of Plaza Nueva.
The journey represents second part of the twinning between the two associations, after the Catalans went to San Pedro in Zamora to start the union between the two groups giants, a project that emerged during the pandemic when leaders of both groups met through a social network.
“The number of photographs that have been taken of us has been tremendous, the number of questions from tourists and Catalans and we have even distributed more than 3,000 brochuresThis is where we tell the story of the Fence”, testifies the president of Capitonis Durii, Luis Fernando García.
The group’s spokesman testifies that on Saturday the person in charge of the association’s social networks “was overwhelmed by the number of references from the group that reached him.”
Zamoranos have carried out several parades, one through the Gothic Quarter, home of the giants of Plaza Nueva, and another that ran through one of the most touristic points of Barcelona, The Ramblas.
“It was incredible because thousands of people saw us, tourists of many nationalities and even Many people from Zamora have come to us who have emigrated to Barcelona some time ago, who had heard that we were coming and who spoke with us very excited when they saw the Sign Vermeja”shares Luis Fernando Garcia.
The group’s spokesman also explains that a very emotional moment has corresponded to a fund in Las Rambas. “They told us that the point where Doña Urraca was was where the van from the attacks ended” in 2017.
The Zamora delegation has also had the good fortune that Doña Urraca and El Cid, when they have not paraded, were exhibited at the Casa de los Entremeses, a center that houses the collection of giants from the center of Barcelona and through which a large number of tourists every day.
The Zamora representation has also visited the Cathedral, where they were lucky enough to have the crypt of Santa Eulalia or the basilica of Santa María del Pi opened to them, where they have verified the strong giant tradition that exists in Barcelona. “Each neighborhood has its giants and We were very surprised that in the religious celebration the giants were in the temple and during the offertory they even danced”.
