Athletics – Munich – Klosterhalfen before the start of the European Championship: Hope for a quick race – Bavaria
Munich (dpa) – The best German long-distance runner Konstanze Klosterhalfen goes with a better feeling than last time at the World Championships in Eugene at the European Athletics Championships in Munich. At the World Championships in her adopted home USA, the Leverkusen woman had also missed the final over 5000 meters, weakened by the consequences of a corona infection. At the Diamond League meeting in Chorzow, Klosterhalfen had finished seventh over 3000 meters in the run-up to the European Championship.
“Purely in terms of feeling, it was a clear difference to Eugene, because I felt that I was competitive again,” said the 25-year-old in retrospect in an interview with Sport1. “Coming back to your own racing feeling and no longer just having to deal with yourself, but being able to take part in the race, that’s what’s fun.”
In Munich, Klosterhalfen started on the first day of the EM this Monday evening (9:48 p.m. / ZDF) over 10,000 meters. After that, they will also compete on this distance three years after the World Championships bronze in the 5000 meters. Klosterhalfen did not name specific goals.
“I’m generally happy when it’s a fast race right from the start,” she said. “In Munich it’s about taking the positive feeling from the competition in Poland with you and showing the performance from the training of the past few weeks in the competition.”
