The “Organizing Committee” behind the preparation of however… what a show !, is a group of ordinary people with a strong spirit of altruism who have respected each other since the beginning of this year to set up the event. Over the months, it has had to make corrections to the dates several times and even upset part of the program due to the variable trend of the pandemic spread and the escalation of events in Ukraine, with the invasion of the Russian army and the consequent enormous tragedy that the population of that country had to undergo, and is still experiencing. Such are wars, all wars, and it is for this reason that we have decided, with the organization in progress, to postpone some planned activities to another occasion, to give the opportunity to remember also in the context of this event, the importance and value the affirmation of rights and peace throughout the world. Well, just on August 15 of last year, TV and newspapers documented what was happening in Afghanistan: with the capture of Kabul by the Taliban, repressed blood, fear and protests were rampant. We have been inundated by the media with images of despair and panic with thousands of Afghans and foreign nationals fleeing to the capital’s international airport in an attempt to leave the country. Chaos and terror for a people who suddenly, with the power of the Taliban militias, saw all those democratic conquests and civilian arrivals, achieved with difficulty in twenty years, canceled in an instant. Particularly shocking is the situation of Afghan women, who have suffered the most serious effects, given that all the assurances of the Taliban leaders towards them have fatally translated into prohibitions, fear of retaliation and violence. Their condition is truly inhumane. Madina and Mulkara are two girls who have personally experienced those terrible days; both at risk of life for having collaborated with Italian associations, Madina as project coordinator of Nove Onlus and Mulkara as physiotherapist (she is also champion of the Afghan national wheelchair basketball team), thanks to NOVE Onlus, an NGO based in Rome and Kabul who has been operating for years in Afghanistan with development projects for women’s emancipation and support for the most vulnerable categories, they managed to escape and now live in Italy where they can follow the path of social and work integration offered by “Beyond welcoming” one of the many projects of the Organization. They will be our guests during the three days we have planned, they will tell us their extraordinary stories and we have decided to name them “Godmothers” of this edition. Thursday 8 September at 4.15 pm they will be received at the Palazzo Pubblico during the audience that the Exc. Captains Regent granted us for the presentation of the Event.
