The murderer who shocked England was brought to Lithuania: he will no longer be imprisoned for life
For the brutal murder of his 48-year-old partner, K. Baužis, a year younger, was sentenced by the Cambridge Royal Court to the harshest sentence – life imprisonment, but at least 17 years and 6 months in prison. However, the murderer will not have to serve such a punishment – in Lithuania he was given another punishment, which was harmonized with the laws of our country.
The Vilnius City Court decided that K. Baužys will have to serve 15 years in prison – the first 10 years he will have to spend in prison, and the rest – in a correctional facility.
However, even after receiving a lighter sentence, the murderer was not satisfied with this decision – K. Baužys is convinced that he should not be imprisoned in solitary confinement, but in a penitentiary together with other prisoners serving sentences for crimes.
Such a demand of the murderer is unfounded – the court stated that according to the currently valid laws, persons convicted of very serious crimes must serve their sentence in prison, and they can be sent to the penitentiary only after serving at least one third of the sentence and if they meet other requirements. At that time, a milder law was applied to K. Baužius, which is currently no longer in force – in the opinion of the court, the provisions of the current legal acts have only made it even more difficult.
K. Baužys, who killed his cohabitant in Cambridge County, was brought to Lithuania to serve the sentence ordered by the court, and the time spent behind bars in the United Kingdom was credited to him.
K. Baužys, who lived in England for several years, came to the attention of law enforcement officials back in 2017. in April, when he killed his friend Džilva B. in a rented house. This crime caused a repercussion in the society – four that the man had abused a woman outside the walls, and she was afraid to complain to someone, both police officers and famous people urged not to be afraid and to talk about cases close to the environment of violence .
This charge shocked residents and officials with its brutality – after seriously injuring his friend K. Baužys, he did not rush to call the medics, instead he went to a store near the house to buy vodka. Here he works as a salesman and admits that there is a dead woman in his house: “She is not breathing.”
The press of the United Kingdom announced that Džilva B., a mother of two children who lived in Lithuania, came to England in 2017, she had known K. Baužis since school. The woman was completely dependent on the man who took her in – she did not know how to speak English, nor did she have time to make new friends. In addition, it was difficult for the woman to find a job because she had cancer and, as it turned out, she often consumed alcoholic beverages.
The Cambridge police announced that K. Baužys was constantly violent against his friend, but he never wanted to admit it – even during the interrogation, the video of which was published by the United Kingdom media, the man explained that Džilva B. injured herself because she was not able to stand on her feet when she was drunk, so she it is said that he would simply fall on the floor or even roll down the stairs.
The woman also did not tend to complain about the constant violence she experienced – she did not betray her partner even when she visited a doctor for anxiety attacks a few months before the murder. Then the doctors found that the Lithuanian had broken ribs.
K. Baužys also explained to the emergency doctors that Džilva B. had injured herself because she fell down the stairs, which was only called after a good half hour after the injuries. However, even at first glance, it was clear that this was not true – there were many bruises on the face, lips, and hands of the petite woman. And later, forensic experts found that the woman died from abdominal injuries – her liver was injured in two places.
“It was a terrible case of domestic violence – K. Baužys lied that Džilva B. had injured herself, but experts determined that such injuries could only be sustained during an attack, after falling from the second floor and getting into a car accident without wearing a seat belt,” the journalist then explained Cambridge Police Inspector Alan Page.
He also added that no one else, except K. Baužis, injured the woman like that – she was at home all the time, and only her friend visited here.
The police officers did not arrest K. Bauzis after the murder, but when they received the conclusions of the forensic medical experts confirming that the woman was murdered, they did not find her when they arrived at his house. He was arrested a few days later in Wisbech Forest, about 50 miles from Cambridge, where he had been staying in a tent.
“Officers have not previously received any reports of violence in this family,” a police spokesman said at the time. – We encourage those who experience violence not to be afraid and to be brave enough to tell someone about it – you don’t have to go directly to the police, but living with violence is unacceptable.”
