The most prestigious regional derby in Brno was enjoyed. Both Sparta and Morenda could win
“Depending on the course of the match, a point is too little or too much, because we could have scored more goals than just one from the chances in the second half. But then we scored a goal in the 90th minute. So in the end we have to be happy for the point as well,” admitted Sparta’s coach Radek Štourač.

An unbiased fan would summarize these assessments as a draw seems to match the course of the match. The derby offered a quality spectacle with interesting moments on both sides. It was played up and down, attacking football, both teams had passages when they pressed the opponent. The guests had more chances in the first half, the home team in the second half. The Slavists kicked the ball out of an empty goal in the 80th minute, when Dominik Síleš was in the right place after the defeated goalkeeper Josef Šurkala. Ruslan Kovalov saved for the home team in the last minute with a kick from the goal line.
Sparta started with an onslaught, as it was commanded by the role of favorite in the home environment. However, the Slavists with the blue stars gradually leveled the game and could take the lead after half an hour. However, Vojtěch Čech fired at the goalkeeper Radek Bílé in a separate attack, but only hit the post. Three minutes later, it fell to the Slavists. After the corner kick, the home defense failed to notice their biggest summer signing, gunner Pavel Simr. He scored with a precise header.
“Of course, we were specially preparing for Pavel, but unfortunately we didn’t keep an eye on him. He just confirmed what we expected. That with his experience he knows how to find the ball in the opponent’s goal,” stated Štourač.
However, the Slavists’ lead only lasted a few seconds, and Jindřich Stehlík equalized with a header. However, the visitors went into the break more satisfied when Martin Baran’s header ended up in the home net.
The second half was opened by Pavel Simr’s second goal, disallowed for offside, and then came the mentioned great moments of Sparta and the apparently well-deserved equalizer.
“In the end, there is satisfaction that we didn’t lose, and dissatisfaction that we didn’t get three points. But it was a derby with everything, even hyped. In the first match of the season, you can see a lack of play, and we are also incorporating more completely new guys,” added Sparta’s coach to his assessment.
“It was as if the spring was repeating itself, when we drew 1:1 here. We were also more than a balanced opponent and we conceded unnecessary cheap goals. Now an extra equalizer six minutes before the end. That’s annoying. But otherwise it was a good match from our side. In the first half we were good on the ball, in the second we were running out of strength and we mainly concentrated on defense. Sparta pushed us. But I still think we should have finished it to win. It freezes,” said Moravská Slavia captain Ondřej Kubík.
Kovalov spoiled the victory for the guests in the last minute with a kick from an empty goal. Simr created the goal situation, but the fans argued that he should have finished the action himself. He went to the goal on his own from the left, but he passed to the right and Sparta’s defenders managed to get back to the goal line.
