RTL Today – American study: Luxembourg has the 3rd best paternity leave in the world
According to this study, only dads in Japan and South Korea would be better off than Luxembourgers.
Luxembourg therefore takes third place in this world ranking of paternity leave so that young (and not so young) dads can take care of their child(ren). Information published by the American job search engine Lensa. Only Japan and South Korea would offer the best conditions for dads.
With us, dads are entitled to seven months leave after the birth of their baby. South Korea, second in the ranking, offers more than a year and Japan just twelve months, but it is another aspect of this paternal leave that has propelled the country of the rising sun to first position: the full salary is there still paid for almost eight months. In Luxembourg, it takes five good months of full salary. Norway, Iceland and Portugal watch the Grand Duchy in the ranking.
In Portugal, new dads are entitled to five and a half months of leave with three months of paid salary. However, this salary is paid on average only up to 56% among the Portuguese, a rate which climbs in Luxembourg to reach 76%.
This study also looks at the duration of maternity leave, and Romania tops the ranking with two years and three months. Here, the full salary is paid to them for two years. The average salary paid during this period is 85%. Estonia is second with one year and nine months where full salary is paid for the entire period.
The countries at the bottom of the ranking, and therefore in which new parents are less well housed, are Ireland, Switzerland and Australia. These countries offer for example a little less than 2 and a half months of leave, with the payment of the full salary for a little more than two months.
