Progressive Slovakia criticizes the construction of sewers in Slovakia, Budaj called it part of their election campaign
The activities of the non-parliamentary party Progresívne Slovensko (PS), which points to the need to complete the construction of public sewers and water pipes, is considered by the Slovak Ministry of the Environment (MŽP SR) to be part of the pre-election campaign in connection with the upcoming municipal elections.
Drinking water for all
“This political entity points to a problem that all the departments involved are aware of and have been working intensively to eliminate since the beginning of the election period,” repeated the MŽP of the Slovak Republic to the criticism of the PS addressed to Veronika Remišová, in which she requests that she ensure drinking water and sewage for all municipalities in Slovakia.
However, the Department of the Environment agrees that the problem with the construction of water supply and sewerage systems in Slovakia has not been solved. “Since 2020, the Environmental Fund has confirmed the construction of water mains, sewerage and wastewater treatment in the total amount of 66,091,234 euros in more than 200 municipalities. However, more than 400 municipalities in Slovakia still do not have access to drinking water. The Ministry of the Environment agrees that such a situation is unsatisfactory. Slovakia’s investment debt in the field of sewerage and wastewater treatment plants, however, amounts to more than 1.5 billion euros. The current government has been working to rapidly reverse the infrastructure debt since it took office. Achieving a full corrective state in two years would not be within the power of any government,” added MŽP SR.
Construction of public sewers
The environmental fund has the construction of water pipes and sewers every year. In the next few days, the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic will present an already current request for the implementation of water pipes and sewers in the total value of 40 million euros from the Environmental Fund.
For this area, an additional 668 million euros will be allocated from European funds under the Slovakia Program. In addition, EUR 61.4 million was provided for this purpose from the Environmental Quality Operational Program within the 69th call, within which almost EUR 100 million is allocated.
“This call is still open for eligible applicants. Therefore, if associations of municipalities or water supply companies have developed projects for the construction of public sewers, wastewater treatment plants, or the simultaneous construction of public water supply systems, the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic is ready to accept their requests.” added the ministry.
