The international skydiving elite stopped off in Belluno this weekend. At the third stop of this year’s World Cup series in target jumping, the athletes from HSV Red Bull Salzburg were able to take home a gold medal.
This won Magdalena Schenner in the women’s classification. The women also got silver in the women’s team ranking.
After only a short break in an extremely successful competition season, including several world championship titles, the parachutists from HSV Red Bull Salzburg went up in the air again for the World Cup. At the third stop of the World Cup series, which took place in Belluno from August 12th to 14th, the Salzburg team kept up the fight for the “precision landings” on Italian soil and won two medals in the very strong starting field of 41 teams.
HSV Red Bull Salzburg was represented by three teams in Belluno: HSV RED BULL SALZBURG 1 with Sebastian Graser, Manuel Sulzbacher, Thomas Reisenbichler, Ivaylo Delev and Michael Löberbauer. Magdalena Schenner, Julia Schosser, Sophie Grill, Marina Kücher and Christina Graml competed as an all-women team at HSV RED BULL SALZBURG 2 in Italy. Josef Auernigg, Michael Urban, Horst Purrer, Joachim Knauss and Christian Irausek competed in the HSV RED BULL SALZBURG 3 team.
Despite the weather-related interruption of the jumps on Friday, the competition on Sunday was completed with eight laps.
The “Golden” for HSV Red Bull Salzburg went to Magdalena Schenner, who fought her way back to the top in her first summer season after maternity leave. With a sensational performance and a total deviation of only 14 cm, she deservedly stood on the top step of the podium in Belluno. “This win is the first that brought tears to my eyes. Even though I’ve won world championships. I never imagined that I could finish first in the women’s individual rankings in the World Cup series. I’m just overwhelmed, especially after my baby break,” said the Thalgau athlete, overjoyed at her victory in Italy. Her teammates also showed strong performances and so Christina Graml with 11th place, Sophie Grill with 12th place (7th place juniors), Marina Kücher with 23rd place and Julia Schosser with 24th place were still among the top 25. For the HSV Red Bull Salzburg women’s team there was also the silver medal in the women’s team ranking.
The men had to struggle with the extremely strong competition and, despite some very good jumps, could not end up on the podium. With 11th place, Ivaylo Delev led the team around the Salzburg men. His teammates Manuel Sulzbacher (25th place), Michael Löberbauer (48th place), Sebastian Graser (65th place), Thomas Reisenbichler (78th place), Michael Urban (102nd place, 9th place juniors), Horst Purrer (113th place), Josef Auernigg (123rd place), Joachim Knauss (143rd place, 14th place juniors) and Christian Irausek (146th place) were further down the field.
In the overall ranking of the teams, the HSV RED BULL SALZBURG 1 team took the excellent 7th place in the midst of the extremely well-staffed international field of participants. For the other two Salzburg teams, it was 20th place (women’s team) and 32nd place.
Medal chances at the home World Cup
In exactly two weeks (August 26th to 28th) the home competition of the Salzburg parachutists will once again be about everything for the parachutists. At the penultimate stop of the World Cup series, which will be held in Thalgau for the twelfth time, the goal for the Salzburg team is of course to get involved in the ranks as co-organizers and, as in previous years, to triumph in front of the home crowd. The Austrian World Cup stop, which is also very popular internationally, not only scores with sporting highlights. Above all, the comprehensive supporting program with entertainment for the whole family guarantees action and fun for athletes and spectators.
