After a two-year Corona break, the Street Parade in Zurich is really back this weekend. It is considered one of the biggest techno parties in the world.
It starts at 1 p.m. this Saturday. At 2 p.m. the parade started on the 2.4 kilometer route from Utoquai to Bürkliplatz and then to Enge.
The organizers told Euronews: “We are expecting between 800 and 950,000 visitors. We are happy to be able to experience joie de vivre on the streets of Zurich again after 2 years of the pandemic.”
30 Love Mobiles will roam the city, and 200 artists will perform on a total of eight stages. But with the giant spectacle there are also some worries.
Ko drops, corona and monkeypox
Swiss media warn of knockout drops. Buying drinks from the official stalls was recommended, also because it supports the Street Parade. But pharmacies are offering bracelets that can be used to test drinks for knockout drops.
Some doctors also fear that among the hundreds of thousands who have traveled from all over the world – especially during sex – monkeypox could spread, like that daily indicator reported.
The head of the Zurich health authority Andreas Hauri complained in 20 minutesthat no vaccinations against monkeypox are currently available in Switzerland.
In Switzerland – unlike in the EU – no vaccine against monkeypox has been approved because no application has been submitted to the responsible drug authority, Swissmedic.
To date, 168 cases of monkeypox have been registered in the canton of Zurich. in all of Switzerland there were 368.
The corona virus could also spread among the many young people, experts warn. With a 7-day incidence of new infections with SARS-CoV2, the infection rate in Switzerland is currently lower than in Germany and about the same as in France. Masks are no longer compulsory on public transport either.
But most of the participants don’t want to let these worries spoil the techno party.
29 degrees were expected in Zurich on Saturday – and it should only rain in the coming days.
