The design competition for the new logo of the Prague 6 district and the uniform visual style that will be used in the communication materials of the town hall and its organizations was won by the design of the company ReDesign.
The winning proposal is based on the emblem of the city district, it follows from resolution district council. According to its spokesman Jiří Hannich, the city hall will announce the details of the new visual identity of Prague’s sixth district in October. The current logo of Prague 6 is from 2005 and, according to representatives of the town hall, it is no longer satisfactory.
The goal according to entry of the competition was to unify the visual communication of the district, including its contribution organizations and joint-stock companies, and especially the communication towards its citizens and visitors to the district.
The town hall announced an open two-phase competition for a new visual identity in cooperation with Czechdesign organizations this March. Among others, graphic designers Kristina Fišerová and Jiří Karásek and the mayor of Prague 6 Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09) sat on the competition jury. The jury chose the proposal from ReDesign as the winner of the competition. In the competition, the proposal from the company Little Greta took second place, the proposal from Less & Better came in third, and the proposal of the author duo consisting of Věra Marešová and Yara Abu Aataya took fourth place.
The winner of the competition received a reward of 80,000 crowns and a subsequent order for the preparation of a graphic manual. For that town hall, you will pay 700,000 crowns without VAT, as stated in the closed contract between the town hall and the graphic studio. Expenditures for the new visual identity of Prague 6 were previously described by representatives of the town hall as a strategic investment of an intangible nature.
The current logo of Prague 6 was designed in 2005 by Michal Kopecký, who in his design worked with basic geometric shapes, namely a circle and a square. According to representatives of the town hall, the logo designed by Kopecky was supposed to refer to the constructivist and functionalist architecture of the 1930s, which can be found in Prague 6. According to representatives of the city district, this logo is no longer satisfactory. Among other things, because it does not correspond to the contemporary visual style of cities and it cannot be used on many products due to the threat of illegibility.
The Czechdesign organization brings together Czech designers, manages a design portal and organizes design competitions. In the past, the organization organized a competition for a new visual appearance, for example, for the city of Ústí nad Labem, for the Olomouc Art Museum or for the national cultural monument Vyšehrad.
Prague 6 is one of the largest Prague districts. It covers an area of 4156 hectares, over 100,000 people live here.
