GRAND AVIGNON Ideas for family activities for the holidays
A game for the whole family at the Chartreuse de Villeneuve, an investigation to be carried out in the streets of the cardinal city and walks in a wine estate between Sauveterre and Pujaut: the Greater Avignon Tourist Office offers ideas for family activities in this month of August.
Let’s start with the Charterhouse, which hosted monks for centuries before becoming in our time a national center for performing arts, with many authors in writing residence. The Chartreuse remains one of the most beautiful monuments of Greater Avignon, which is well worth a visit, also with the family.
Thus, and for the first time this summer, the Chartreuse is offering a bag of games to play with the family. The idea is to “to discover the life of the monks and of the modern Charterhouse, with a game, small playful challenges around the five senses, a puzzle, accessories, a nature observation activity (the Chartreuse is a refuge for the Protection League birds, editor’s note), it’s a game for the whole family from 5 years old »presents Audrey Pujol, head of tourism development at La Chartreuse.
We also find in the bag something to draw and an activity around the theater. In short, enough to take care of as a family and discover the Chartreuse. And, to top it off, lending the bag of games is free, as is the entrance to the monument for children.
After visiting the Chartreuse with your family, you can go in search of its treasure as part of a treasure hunt investigation offered by the tourist office during a heritage visit. The children become chief investigators, and the parents their assistants. “The goal is to arouse children’s curiosity and open them up to a taste of local heritage and history”presents Laurence Amselle, from the tourist office.
The visit/survey is free, but on registration on 04 90 03 70 60. The next one will be held on Wednesday August 17 at 10 a.m. from the Villeneuve tourist office. A visit/survey on the same principle is also offered on the other side of the Rhône, in Vedène.
Finally, the Domaine du Château d’Aiguilhon, in Sauveterre, offers a family tour through its vineyards. A mesh path “panels on the themes of agroecology, insects, sustainable agriculture or even animals”, explains Anaïs Comerly, from the wine estate. The walk takes place on the 30 hectares of the estate, between Sauveterre and Pujaut, with pretty viewpoints, in particular on the Dentelles de Montmirail.
“The walk is easy to do, you just need to have baskets and a bottle of water”, says Anaïs Comerly. And the parents could then taste the 5 cuvées of the domain, while the little ones will sip a strawberry syrup. The estate is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., it is best to call 06 24 68 25 90 before coming.
The Château d’Aiguillon will also offer an evening, “The starred vineyard”, on Saturday August 20 from 7 p.m., in cooperation with the Parc du Cosmos. An astronomer will be present with a telescope to observe the stars. Royal paella, fruit tart and glass of wine are on the menu for an evening at 35 euros per adult and 20 euros per child under 12 years old. Reservations at the number above.
