De Parade back in Amsterdam after two years: “It immediately feels like old times”
The Parade starts again in the city. Amsterdam is the last city where the theater festival has not been for the longest time. After two years, the organizers and the theater makers are happy to be allowed again: “The home game is always a nice ending.”
We’ve had to miss the festival for two years, but it’s back. “It still feels a bit uncomfortable, but I’m really looking forward to the weeks,” says organizer Nadine van Pinxteren. This year there are about seventy performances spread over every day. “Performances about thirty minutes, so you can do anything.”
For theater maker Nina-Elisa Euson, it is the first time she is on the Parade with her theater company: “The Parade is so cool, there are so many makers together and people really come for the theatre.” She and her company perform musical theater in which the story of Turkish guest workers is told.
Diversity is an important starting point for this year’s Parade: “We try to give a place to many young makers who are finding it difficult to conquer a position in times of corona.

“We try to hold people’s attention and alternate fast scenes and good jokes,” says Euson. It gets hot during the weeks, and therefore precautions are taken: “We ventilate all tents and there is enough water for everyone”, let the organization know.
After the Parade has been in Eindhoven, The Hague and Utrecht, Amsterdam is the last in the series. “It feels like a home game,” says Euson. “Our group comes from here, so this feels extra fun for us. Amsterdam is the largest and it really is the final station.”
