New sectors of Pas-de-Calais placed on “drought vigilance”
The watersheds of the Canche, the Authie, the Scarpe Amont, the Sensée and the Scheldt are added to the list of sectors placed in a state of vigilance and drought alert in the Pas-de-Calais.
The drought is not abating and the situation on the northern coast of Pas-de-Calais “start to get tense“, notes the prefecture of Pas-de-Calais, in particular in the sectors of Boulonnais, Audomarois, Delta and Aa.
The situation is also tense in the other basins of the department. This is why restrictions”of all uses in the most supported basins” were taken by a prefectural decree of August 12, 2022.
The watersheds of the Canche, Authie, Scarpe Amont, Sensée and Escaut are placed in a state of drought vigilance. They join those of the Lys, the Marque and the Deûle which were already there.
The drought alert is maintained for the coastal basins of Boulonnais, the watersheds of Audomarois and the Aa Delta.
Restrictive measures areapplicable in watersheds on alert in order to significantly reduce water consumption and preserve resources“.
For individuals and communities, the prefecture calls on the “common sense“to save money”strongly water“. This involves limiting the watering of lawns, filling ponds and prohibiting washing cars outside “specialized centers that recycle water“.
For companies, “the objective is to reduce their water consumption by around 10%“. On the farmers’ side, “irrigation is prohibited on Saturdays and Sundays between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. “and at the same times on weekdays” during heat waves“.
Even if no restriction measure is imposed for the basins placed “in a situation of vigilance“, the prefecture invites all users to”reduce their water consumption and avoid non-essential uses“.
She also calls everyone “to the greatest responsibility in order to avoid the implementation of more restrictive measures“.
All the details of the restrictions and the areas concerned are available on the site of the Pas de Calais prefecture.
