Darmanin vs Doucet: the municipal police of Lyon are “taken hostage”

The political issue of security in Lyon, particularly in the Guillotière district, took a new turn this summer. Since the lynching of three police officers during an arrest, there has been war between Grégory Doucet, mayor of Lyon, and Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior.
Recently, Grégory Doucet denounced the “media fixation point” that the Guillotière district has become and denounces a “political recovery” and a “sickening” atmosphere on the subjects of security and immigration.
Bertrand, FO spokesperson: “They pass the buck, we feel taken hostage”
Gérald Darmanin claimed that in the Guillotière district, “60% of crime is committed by foreigners”. Today, the mayor of Lyon rejects all of Gérald Darmanin’s proposals with the exception of a meeting in September.
Bertrand, spokesperson for the FO-municipal police of Lyon, denounces this situation toLyon news. “They engage each other in a political game. They pass the buck, we feel taken hostage, ”he laments.
The municipal police more than just a “local police”
The head of the GOM (mobile operational group) has little taste for the media outlets of Grégory Doucet who wants a “local” municipal police.
He explains: “When he talks about the municipal police, he says that we are intended to be local police and that security is the responsibility of the State. This is false, we deal with a large part of the medium and small delinquency. We carry out arrests: narcotics, violence, etc. »
Recruits who do not immediately compensate for departures
Bertrand recalls that the municipal police are often the first responder in Lyon. Today, the FO union above all wants means to deal with the many departures:
“There were about 26 for 37 new recruits. You should know that these are not immediately operational. They have six months of training and are not armed for a year sometimes…”
The FO spokesperson warns of the situation: “It is not uncommon to have patrols with an armed official and two young trainees who have barely finished their training and who do not have a weapon. It has already happened at La Guillotière. »
