master Salzburg the drives next personalities ahead. After Christoph Freund ended the change saga around Benjamin Sesko with the transfer to Leipzig fixed for 2023, Mohamed Camara should soon follow. Freund explained on Friday that for the first time there was a concrete offer on the table for the midfielder who is willing to change and has not yet played a minute in a competitive game this season.
The change of the team player from Mali can now happen “quickly”, said Freund. He did not want to confirm the Premier League club Everton as an interested party. According to the sports newspaper L’Equipe, Camara could move to AS Monaco.
So friend, “finally peace” should return to Sesko. As is well known, the young striker will move to the sister club in Leipzig next summer. “There was an extremely big hype about Benji Sesko, which we haven’t seen that often before. It was his wish that we clarify that and that he can concentrate on the season,” said Freund.
Jaissle on Sesko transfer: “Good story”
Matthias Jaissle can also gain something from the change with an unusually long lead time: “For me it’s a good story because it’s clear now. There was so much hustle and bustle around him,” said Jaissle, “happy” like Freund – possibly because of the Salzburgers a similar change hic-hack as Karim Adeyemi this time is spared.
Sesko himself now wants to concentrate on the essentials with the help of Salzburg’s mental coaches and “get off to a good start” (Jaissle) for the rest of the season in Salzburg. On Sunday (5 p.m.) there will be the first opportunity to do so in the Bundesliga against WAC.
Salzburg conceded their last home defeat in the league to date against the Carinthians (2: 3/December 20, 2020). In the previous year, the league remained clean with four wins (12:1 goals). In the cup, however, Robin Dutt’s team knew how to stand up to the favorites up to a penalty shoot-out.
Jaissle also reminded of this on Friday. “We know from our own experience how unpleasant the opponent is. We assume that they have a top team and are playing very well,” said the German, who has recovered from tonsillitis. With a point behind the current top duo LASK and Rapid, Salzburg want to use the Carinthian home double – Austria Klagenfurt will follow next week – to return to their place in the table.
Gourna-Douath not fit yet
The designated Camara successor will not be involved yet. Lucas Gourna-Douath, signed for €15m from St. Etienne, completed part of his first team training session on Friday after suffering an ankle injury. “Then hopefully next week he’ll be ready to take part in a full team session,” said Jaissle. “We will build it up very carefully.”
the WAC, who escaped humiliation with a 4-0 win over Gzira in Malta on Tuesday, comes into play with a completely different pressure situation. “It’s always the same against Salzburg. You need your best day and Salzburg don’t need your best – then you have a chance. These two components have to come together,” said Dutt. The German emphasized that Salzburg had not lost any of its dominance compared to the previous year.
