Belgian Lions – Belgium loses in its first friendly match in Estonia
Belgium were beaten 79-66 in their first of two friendlies against Estonia on Friday in Tartu, Estonia.
In Estonia, Belgium was to play a three-team tournament with the host country and Bosnia but the Bosnian federation had to cancel its participation due to serious financial problems which could lead to Bosnia’s participation in the Euro (1st in September 18). It was the fourth preparation match for the troops of Dario Gjergja, who had played two games in Finland last week (a 71-75 victory and an 80-71 loss) and a match against Germany (83-87 loss) Wednesday in Hasselt. The Belgian Lions will play against Estonia again on Sunday. On August 17, they will complete this series of warm-up matches in France. Belgium is preparing its qualifying matches for the 2023 World Cup on August 25 against Great Britain at the Mons.arena and on August 28 in Greece, but also the Euro which will start on September 1 in Tbilisi, Georgia. At the Euro, Belgium was given in group A which is played in Tbilisi in Georgia with Spain, Montenegro, Georgia, Turkey and Bulgaria. Dario Gjergja’s players make their debut on Thursday, September 1 against Georgia (7:00 p.m.). The first four of the group will qualify for the final phase which will take place in Berlin, Germany.
