The Vltava is a fundamental element of Prague’s urbanism. It is therefore not surprising that she does not work to improve her surroundings. In a total of ten projects, forgotten places will be transformed into recreational spaces and key infrastructure connections. At the same time, during city planning, the threat of floods and the necessity of an ecological construction solution hang over the architecture.
“The identity of Prague is based on the river. This is a huge opportunity for new places for recreation, bike paths, apartments with a view of the water, but it also gives us an opportunity to solve the energy crisis. We can use the heat of the water and heat with the help of heat pumps of the Prague household. In Scandinavia, these alternative sources have been used with success for decades and there is no reason why it should not work here. In this way, the metropolis can gradually become energetically self-sufficient and independent of gas,” says First Deputy Mayor of Prague Petr Hlaváček about the upcoming projects.
