Thessaloniki: Funding for the Nea Krini fishing shelter was approved
One of the largest public projects of the Operational Program “Fisheries and the Sea”, the Fishing Sanctuary of Nea Krinis Kalamaria in Thessaloniki, is getting underway.
This, thanks to the approval of its funding, such as the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
“Forty years ago it was an idea. Three years ago it was rejected. Today after a lot of work, repeated pressures and meetings with the relevant ministers, we have achieved what no one believes after decades of promises that remained in words. The financing was approved and we are proceeding with the construction of the fishing shelter”, said the Mayor of Kalamaria, Yiannis Dardamanelis and added “We are strengthening the primary sector and at the same time the economy of Kalamaria”.
The fishing shelter will be built in the coastal zone of the Nea Krini area of the Municipality of Kalamaria, following the reclamation carried out for this purpose in 1996.
With the completion of the Deed, the construction of a modern and fully equipped fishing shelter is achieved, with a capacity of 83 professional vessels (25 large trawlers and trawlers and 55 coastal fishing vessels), which meets the needs of the fishermen of the Municipality of Kalamaria and its fleet. wider area of the Regional Unity of Thessaloniki.
The fishing sanctuary of Nea Krini strengthens the existing fishing activity and the prospects of the young business in the sector, due to its tradition and proximity to the sea. At the same time, it is connected with the regeneration of the front of the 6.5 km coastal zone of the Municipality of Kalamaria. The new port infrastructure is a key direction of the Strategic Environmental Impact Study of the Revised General Urban Plan of the Municipality of Kalamaria.
The public expenditure budget is 6,601,400 euros.
