Debrecen – MÁV-START ordered 375 new ticket machines, more than 80 percent of them, 324 units, are already in operation. Passengers can already use these at suburban line crossings, but they can also buy their tickets from several machines at railway stations in county seats and cities with higher traffic. The development is making it easier and faster to buy tickets and passes in more and more places.
Mass installation of the new ticket machines began last fall. Of the 375 new ticket vending machines ordered, 275 can accept card and cash payments, while 100 can only accept bank card payments. Of these, 324 have already been installed, and the installation of another 56 machines is expected to be completed by the end of the year. From a total of nearly 500 machines across the country, millions of passengers can get their tickets every year, even more convenient than before, and their passes also include train and bus offers.
New ticket and pass issuing machines are already operating in Tatabánya-Győr (number 1), Esztergom (2), Székesfehérvár (30a), Pusztaszabolcs (40a), Szobi (70), Veresegyházi (71), at the stations and stops of the Hatvani (80a), Cegléd (100a), Újssász (120a) and Lajosmizse (142) railway lines, as well as at the Nyugati, Keleti and Déli railway stations, as well as in Kelenföld.
New vending machines are available to passengers at the stations of several county seats, such as Debrecen, Székesfehérvár, Szolnok and Szeged, as well as Dunaújváros and Zirc stations.
178 existing machines were also renewed in 2021. On the suburban lines, the devices, which were replaced by newer types, but renovated, were moved to new locations, typically at rural stations and county seats with high passenger traffic, and on the TramTrain line between Hódmezővásárhely and Szeged, which started last year, where tickets were purchased from vending machines. A total of 37 new and renovated vending machines are now available to passengers at the busier stations and stops on the Balaton coast. The popular Balaton 24 and 72 day tickets can also be purchased from the vending machines.
At those stations where there is a ticket office or vending machine, you can only board the train with a valid ticket, the ticket can only be purchased on the train with a surcharge. MÁV-START interactive map passengers can get up-to-date information on the availability of vending machines.
