Senegal-Netherlands not the opening game of the World Cup in Qatar
22:30 – It has been in the air for a while, but now it is also final: the English team will not act in the opening game of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. The Orange squad would initially open the final tournament against Senegal on November 21, but FIFA has decided to move the start one day forward. As a result, host country Qatar can ‘just’ participate in the first group match.

During the draw for the group stage of the World Agricultural Championships, the Orange was given to host country Qatar, Senegal and Ecuador. In the run-up to the draw, Louis van Gaal had predicted that the Netherlands would end up in the Qatar group and the national coach was therefore right. But what Van Gaal might not have taken into account was the fact that his side would also play the opening game of the game. Orange would perform against Senegal, because host country Qatar has a big fireworks show in store and which of course does not arise in daylight.
A host country that opens the World Cup is of course strange and FIFA has now come to that conclusion. The World Football Association has, earlier reports from England suggested, the start of the World Cup forward. Qatar now opens the World Cup on Sunday 20 November with a game against Ecuador. The meeting between Senegal and the Netherlands will still be played on Monday, November 21, but will start a few hours later. Where the Orange squad would initially start its first group match at 11 a.m. Dutch time, the Senegal now at 5 p.m. The match between Qatar and Ecuador will also be played at that time.
