San Marino. Civil Protection: “Fire risk: pay close attention to mid-August”
Mid-August is upon us: the Civil Protection of San Marino appeals to citizens to prevent the risk of forest fires.
The Civil Protection Service, the Environmental and Agricultural Resources Management Office and the Fire Section of the Civil Police Corps, in view of the approach of August 15th, which has always been a holiday that evokes outdoor activities and leisure, strongly draw attention to every single citizen in order to take a targeted preventive action against the onset of forest fires that devastate our forest heritage and beyond.
A cigarette butt dropped carelessly, the ashes of a barbecue not properly disposed of, candles or devices against insect bites not correctly positioned, equipment or vehicles overheated in some contact with dry brushwood, the use of flying lanterns are just examples of bad behaviors that can win, in a short moment, a disastrous scenario. The fast propagation and the difficulty of finding water for extinguishing in this period of their great drought, make forest fires a calamitous living event that raises a strong fire also for their development that can affect villages thus becoming an interface fire with consequent danger for human life as well as for the environment.
A good civic sense is therefore required from all of us, respecting the most common basic rules for the prevention of forest fires. Please note that, in public areas, it is prohibited by Decree no. 57/2000 to install fixed or mobile equipment for lighting fires or preparing embers and charcoal. The barbecues must be set up in private only duly equipped to prepare for the occasion with the necessary precautions necessary to avoid the onset of fires and possible appropriate behaviors can be adopted in all areas in order to avoid sources of risk.
