Salzburg Airport: gastronomy shines in new splendor » up-to-date
A modern relay shop has been brand new for a few weeks, selling Austrian and international daily newspapers, books, electronic items, tobacco goods, travel needs, drinks and small snacks. It replaces the tobacconist, which has been based at the airport for decades and was closed this year.
The “So!Coffee” café is connected to the Relay shop, which is open daily. Lagardère’s own brand, which already has 60 locations in airports, train stations and shopping centers in its six countries, is celebrating its premiere in Austria.
Larger market café in the departure area
Even after the security checks, a lot has changed for the departing passengers. The market café in the waiting area in front of the gates has been significantly enlarged and redesigned. Passengers now have more space to enjoy the time before departure and relax with a drink and a bite to eat.
“The former landside café in the public area next to the travel agency has been integrated into the market café on the airside, creating more space for departing passengers. This will give us 60 additional seats,” reports Ursula Fürnhammer, CEO of Lagadére Travel.
“The Wolfgang” – chilled and trendy
Finally, the restaurant “Das Wolfgang” on the second floor of the terminal is chilled and trendy. The roof terrace offers a unique view of the airport apron directly from the dining table that no other café or restaurant can match. Continuous awnings provide protection from the sun and rain.
Passengers have a quick bite to eat or drink here before departure, smaller and familiar ones pick up their loved ones from the airport and say hello to them from the roof terrace – and other guests just want to eat well and chill in comfort. Or they celebrate once a month at the “Fly me to the moon party” until the early morning.
Gastronomic experience at the airport
“With the renovations at Salzburg Airport, we are creating incentives to not only make the airport interesting for departures and arrivals, but also to make the gastronomic experience a special highlight after work, at weekends with the family or at business lunches on the roof terrace in into everyday life,” explains Silvie Posch, Salzburg site manager of Lagardère Travel Retail.
Around half a million euros was invested in the conversion of the three catering areas. In addition, Salzburg Airport has also been able to expand the control lanes and modernize the check-in machines in recent months.
Good to know: Parking at the airport is free for purchases of 15 euros or more. “My heartfelt thanks go to our partner Lagardère, who not only made a clear commitment to Salzburg Airport, but was also willing to invest in the future together with us,” sums up Airport Managing Director Bettina Ganghofer.
