Portugal is the sixth country in Europe with the most cases of Monkeypox
There are 17,897 cases of infection with the Monkeypox virus in Europe, with Portugal being the sixth country with the highest incidence, with a total of 710 infected people.
The disease is listed in the World Health Organization (WHO) regional bulletin for Europe, revealing that, in August, 17,897 cases of monkeypox were identified in 41 countries and areas across the European region.
By European country, Portugal is the sixth with the highest number of cases (710), only surpassed by Spain (5162), Germany (2982), the United Kingdom (2973), France (2423) and the Netherlands (959), according to the published numbers.
Still at European level, as health authorities 35 countries reported 17,50 European cases and 9 WHO regional cases, of which 17,402 were confirmed at European level in the laboratory.
After the first symptom was reported, at the April level, the 3rd majority, the ECDC and WHO for most Europe explain that, at the moment, the majority of infected people are between the ages of 31 and 40 years (40%) and is 99% sex, having mainly symptoms such as rash, fever, fatigue, male headache (chills or aches).
Of the total, there have been 455 cases of people hospitalizedof which 163 need clinical care, such as admission to intensive care units.
The ECDC and WHO for Europe say that now 48 cases of Monkeypox have been reported as being a health worker, but not attributable to any occupational exposure.

In Portugal, according to the most recent data released by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), last Thursday, the number of confirmed cases of infection with the Monkeypox virus rose to 710.
