New LNG/Bio-LNG terminal planned for Port of Sweden | News
Announced today, 11Th In August, the deal – confirmed in a memorandum of understanding – will mean that Avenir buys Oxgas AB, the project company for the terminal currently owned by Oxelösunds Hamn AB.
Strategically located near key industrial natural gas consumers, the terminal will have a single atmospheric tank with full containment, delivery of natural gas via regasification to a local pipeline network and LNG via two trucks for off-port distribution.
The terminal will be serviced by Avenir’s fleet of LNG carriers, with some of its key bunkering customers able to be served directly from the terminal.
Peter Mackey, CEO, Avenir LNG, says the project offers a “key strategic growth opportunity for Avenir”, adding: “The challenges facing European gas markets have reinforced Avenir’s commitment to investing in critical infrastructure and supply chains that improve energy security in regions with landlocked demand and further enable the transition to cleaner, greener and more sustainable forms of energy.”
To aid the transition from LNG/Bio-LNG, the partners will also explore the potential development of a future energy hub, in addition to implementing carbon reduction programs to create a fully renewable Net Zero energy facility.
“Partnering with Avenir LNG will allow us to move forward into the next phase of our Oxgas project and we are convinced that Avenir is the right partner to work with,” commented Douglas Heilborn, CEO of Oxelösunds Hamn AB.
After securing all necessary building permits, Avenir aims to begin construction of the terminal with a shorter lead time.
