European Championships: Top 5 for Lisa Vaelen and Belgium!
Under the eyes of Nina Derwael, our Olympic champion on the uneven bars, the Belgian women’s gymnastics team signed a superb performance this Friday in the Olympiahalle in Munich, one of the historic sites of the 1972 Olympics, by ranking fifth in the general… individual competition. With a total of 155,663 pts, the quintet made up of Maellyse Brassart, Fien Enghels, Noémie Louon, Lisa Vaelen and Jutta Verkest thus qualified for the team final, which will take place on Saturday.
In the meantime, the best of our representatives also finished in fifth place, with 53,699 pts, in this individual competition won by the moving Italian Asia D’Amato. With 54.732 pts, she won the first gold medal of these European championships. After an unbearable suspense, D’Amato beat the Briton Alice Kinsella (54.132) and her friendly compatriot Martina Maggio (53.965).
On an individual level, Lisa Vaelen also finished fifth in vault with a score of 13.616 pts, which will allow her to compete in the final of this apparatus, scheduled for Sunday.
