Better than Haaland? Marin Ljubicic with an outstanding goal quota in Austria – FUSSBALL INTERNATIONAL
What a start!
Marin Ljubicic (20) from Linzer Athletik-Sport-Klub (LASK) has won six times in his first three games in the Austrian Bundesliga. This is reminiscent of a certain Erling Haaland (22)…
The Norwegian superstar had also attracted attention in Austria. At the start of the 2019/20 season, Haaland scored six goals in the first four games of the Austrian Bundesliga. Then it was off to BVB in the Bundesliga and this summer in the Premier League to English champions Manchester City.
Ljubicic even surpassed this start of the season. He only needed three games for his six goals. A mega quote! Only Tibor Nyilasi (today 67, Austria Vienna/1983) and Oliver Bierhoff (54, Austria Salzburg/1990) managed to do that.
His four-pack against Wolfsberger AC put him in the spotlight. He scored the first goal after just 28 seconds. With his hat-trick in the ÖFB Cup (national cup competition) in the 9-1 win against SC Schwaz, he has already scored nine competitive goals to his credit.

At the end of June, LASK loaned the Croatian U21 international from Hajduk Split (Croatia) – including a purchase option for 2.4 million euros. “Several top clubs at home and abroad had him on the slip. Despite the strong competition, we managed to convince him of our path,” said LASK sports director Radovan Vujanovic (40).
praise from all sides
“He has the instinct to score and is a good all-rounder. He’s good at everything,” says former Austrian national player Marc Janko.

LASK trainer Dietmar Kühbauer (51) is very happy about the current form of his striker. “He’s on six goals now, which is incredible after three rounds. If things went on like this, I wouldn’t mind,” he said on Sky. Kühbauer is particularly integrated by his young striker’s willingness to learn: “Every time I train, I see that he wants to get better. After every training session, he asks me what he can do better. He is very willing.”

Despite his outstanding form, the Croatian himself still sees a lot of room for improvement: “In terms of my header game and in terms of running strength, also my left foot and my right foot, as far as the finish is concerned, there is still plenty of room for improvement.”
With his skills and attitude, he’s well on his way to becoming a great striker. And his goals with the LASK? Ljubicic: “Winning 20 goals in the league, finishing in the top three and winning the cup.”
If these goals are achieved, Linz will probably not hesitate for long and transfer the 2.4 million euros to Split.
