Barcelona will pay tribute to the victims for the 5th anniversary of the attacks on 17-A
Barcelona will commemorate the fifth anniversary of the August 17 attack with an act of remembrance and homage to the victims at the memorial that was installed in Pla de l’Ós on La Rambla, a site very close to the tragic events.
Victims, relatives and institutional representatives will participate, and the mayor, Ada Colau, will lead a delegation from the City Council with representation from all political groups, the consistory has detailed this Thursday in a statement.
The act will be presented by the writer Fatima Saheb and it will feature the symphonic choir of young voices, which will perform two musical pieces.
The tribute will close with a minute of silence and a floral offering from the victims, relatives and authorities, which will take place while the Cant dels Ocells is performed live.
The attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils (Tarragona) on August 17 and 18, 2017 caused 16 deaths and more than a hundred wounded of 24 nationalities.
The memorial that was installed in Pla de l’Ós on La Rambla –where the attack van stopped– consists of a 12-meter plaque embedded in the ground with the inscription ‘May peace cover you, oh city of peace’, reproduced in Spanish, Catalan, English and Arabic.
Like every year, surviving victims, relatives and political authorities will make a floral offering at the memorial while the ‘Cant dels ocells’ is played live . The political delegation will be headed by the mayor, Ada Colau, and will include representatives of all political groups.
