A family from Rouen goes around the world for a year
This is a dream come true for Rachel and Vincent, the parents, and their children Maëlys, Augustin and Anatole, aged 16, 14 and 10 respectively. The family, which has lived until now in the metropolis of Rouen, will travel the world for a whole year. On the program: crossing North, Central and South America, then a trip to Oceania, before discovering Japan and Southeast Asia.
In each country visited, the globetrotters will stay for a month. “15 days where we will live like the locals, and 15 days where we will rather go for walks and go sightseeingsays Rachel. With two imperatives in the program: spend christmas in uruguay, where Rachel’s mother lives, then be in Indonesia in June, so that Maëlys can pass her French bac exams. “Now is the time to do it, because afterwards, the big one will be in final year and will leave home“, details Rachel.
Savings for several years
The children will also follow their schooling by correspondence. “We are aware that it will not be easy all the time, on the other hand they will acquire more autonomy! I don’t care, it’ll do“, she continues. A situation that does not disturb the youngest of the family, Anatole, who will enter sixth grade: “There’s just the friends that I liked at school and the mistress… And there, we can do all the work in the morning, and in the afternoon, leisure!” He can’t wait to go see Baseball games in the United States, Ice Hockey in Canada and “see toucans in Costa Rica“His brother, Augustin, really wants to discover Japan, especially to taste it”real Ramen“.
The trip of a lifetime comes at a cost. Between 90,000 and 100,000 euros budget in total. This obviously includes plane tickets, the most expensive, but also housing rentals, and the daily life of a family of five. To finance this journey, the family home near Rouen is rented out for the past few days, Rachel has been telecommuting and expenses have been restricted for several years. “Each time, we look at what we could do on a trip with the money from potential purchases, and we say to ourselves that we can clearly do without it.“, rebounds the mother.
Adventures to follow on Instagram
A fear all the same before leaving for Vincent, the dad, at the level of the rhythm: “leaving work, life here, to move on to something else, it’s a huge change of gears and you’ll have to adapt over the first few weeks“.
