VIDEO: World Cup in U20 hockey: Sobering after an excellent start. Slovaks…
Matej Kašlík, scorer of 2 goals (source: hockeyslovakia.sk): “Emotions are not positive. If it wasn’t for the second period, we might have won the game, but hats off to the lads and the way we tried to turn it around in the last period. There was only a short distance to go to extra time, we would have at least a point.
For my first goal, I received an excellent pass from Mykluch, I just shot into the goal and scored a goal. With the second one, I pushed it into the goal with my teeth and nails and equalized at 4:4.
We have to regenerate well now, also mentally. Take a little rest from hockey and prepare for the next match physically and mentally. We all know what kind of team Canada is. We will have to skate a lot, fight and there won’t be much space for them.”

Slovakia’s match schedule for the 2022 Under-20 Ice Hockey World Championship
Oliver Stümpel (source: hockeyslovakia.sk): “From the 10th minute we relaxed a bit and let them play. After that it was very difficult for us to play, we didn’t skate with them, we didn’t engage in a fight. It was hard to catch up. We finally gave it everything, but we just missed it.
When we were winning by two goals, we probably thought it would be easier and got involved a bit. We let them play, which they took advantage of and then they had the upper hand.”
Ivan Feneš, head coach (source: hockeyslovakia.sk): “We had an excellent start to the match. What happened in the second period… That’s a performance we can’t perform in a winning world. A lot of overcounting and individual mistakes cost us.
In the third period, we got back into the game, but we got the decisive goal at 5:4 from a senseless bad substitution and an individual error. We’re sorry, but it’s over and we have to get ready for Canada.
There was a positive start to the match, coming out of the zone and the end, where we showed our willingness to win the duel. We should build on that.
We devoted a lot of time to the power forwards in training, and today it was confirmed to us that we should be offensive and the boys should score a goal, which is a promise for the next matches.
During the day off, we will have at least two short training sessions where we will discuss the match and prepare for Canada. We will also have a light training session. We have a demanding program ahead of us.”
Roman Faith (source: RTVS): “It was a nice team performance, but at the end of the third period we didn’t guard a player, that can’t happen to us at this stage of the game. We played a terrible second period. We’re facing Canada, the best team in the tournament, and we have to play like the first five minutes in the first period and the last ten minutes in the third. If not, it will turn out very badly.’
