Vienna, Borrell: final text ready to ratify the Iranian nuclear deal between Iran and the United States.
(ASI) Vienna – An agreement on Iranian nuclear power has recently been reached according to the head of foreign affairs of the European Union Josep Borrell, who tweeted in his profile that a definitive text has materialized: “What can be negotiated has been negotiated, and is now in a final text.
However, behind every technical question and every paragraph hides a political decision that must be taken in the capitals. If these answers are positive, then we can sign this deal “
The political decision to which Borrell refers, concerns the approval by both Iran and the United States and in case of positive responses, the agreement is already to be signed in Vienna.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) known as the Iran Nuclear Agreement, is an agreement on nuclear energy in Iran signed in Vienna on 14 July 2015 between the members of the United Nations Security Council ( USA, Russia, China, United Kingdom and France) and the European Union.
The purpose of the plan was to commit Iran to reduce low-enriched uranium reserves and to dismantle two-thirds of the country’s gas centrifuges. In return, the other participants in the agreement pledge to achieve UN sanctions on Iran for many years for its nuclear program.
The deal was terminated in 2018 due to former US President Donald Trump’s choice to dissolve negotiations with the Middle Eastern state for its uranium enrichment policies and from then on, Iran has violated increasingly agreements and expanded its nuclear program.
Following Borrell’s negotiations, a US State Department spokesperson announced that the United States is ready to conclude an agreement based on EU proposals:
“As the EU presented two weeks ago, the text they have at the time is the best and the only basis on which to reach an agreement. In the last few, the EU coordinator has engaged in further consultations to help clarify remains and finalize any questions regarding that text. Those consultations ended today and now we await the next steps of the EU “, said the spokesman.
The meeting in Vienna between the United States and Iran is therefore expected to definitively sign the agreement and resume the global joint action plan.
