The terrible consequences of the elimination of Monaco on the UEFA index of France
This Tuesday evening, ASM failed to create the feat and logically lost on the lawn of PSV Eindhoven (3-2), on behalf of the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League. An unfortunate elimination that will cost France points on the UEFA index.
AS Monaco played for an entire country. This Tuesday evening, as the second round of the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League, ASM lost on the lawn of PSV (3-2). A frustrating defeat but also synonymous with elimination for the Rock club.
If the Monegasques will have to quickly recover from this terrible disappointment, French football will also have to work hard to avoid the double sanction. Indeed, Philippe Clément’s players played big in the race for the UEFA index.
As revealed by The TeamFrance’s UEFA index is more than ever in danger, due to the reform of the C1 planned for the 2024/25 season, which will further review the allocation of European places.
The latter wants the fifth in the general classification to be granted four places for the C1, including three directly qualified at the end of the championship. Either, France (5th; 49,997 points) now finds itself more than ever hounded by its direct competitors: the Netherlands (6th; 48,100 points) and Portugal (7th; 45,549 points).
Thus, if ever the disaster were to occur and France found themselves 7th at the end of the season, France would obtain only one directly qualifying place for the Champions League. In order to avoid drama, this therefore requires good results from the six teams involved in Europe this season.
