Singer Luedji Luna to CM: “Portugal lacks laws that protect black people” – Cultura
Brazilian singer and songwriter, an outspoken feminist, activist who denounces racial prejudice and the empowerment of women, especially black women, performs this Thursday at B.Leza, in Lisbon, and Friday at the Hard Club, in Porto. The two concerts are part of the European tour of the presentation of the album ‘Bom Even é Estar Underwater’.
Luedji ends its European tour this year in Portugal. For those who don’t know her, what is a Luedji show like?
It’s an intimate show, and at the same time intense. It makes you dance, think and feel at the same time.
How is your relationship with Portugal? What do you know about our country?
It’s my second time in Portugal. I’ve sung in Lisbon, Porto, and Madeira Island. I know your whole story! Every Brazilian knows.
His music is full of symbolism and social messages. What else today in the contemporary world?
Racism. A cancer in Brazilian and world society.
Do you feel that as an artist you have a duty to stir consciences?
Not. I don’t have the duty, but I do it because I’m a conscious artist.
It is known that some manifestations of racism in childhood. How has this shaped your individual and artistic personality?
Racism runs through my existence, but it doesn’t shape me, it doesn’t fundamental me. Black subjectivities are beyond racism.
“Create actor Brunosso and wife Portugal for the sake of their children”. because of these they multiply daily around the world. What is urgent to do and how can this problem, which is cultural and deeply rooted, be resolved?
The state needs to guarantee all of ours. Portugal lacks laws that protect and safeguard the rights of black people, who live here in this country, built and still build material and material wealth on this land. There is no enforcement for these acts.
Another of her great struggles is female empowerment. The truth is that women are more and fairer than us men.
I know that women are more than they are not fair, I know that all women’s humanity is guaranteed.
