With the multiplication of cases of monkey pox around the world, we would almost forget that covid-19 continues to circulate, much less than before that said. However, this does not prevent large pharmaceutical groups, such as Moderna or Pfizer, from working on vaccines to fight against the Omicron variant and its various sub-variants, responsible for the latest waves of contamination.
Speaking of contamination, these continued their decline caused a few weeks ago in Luxembourg. Thus, last week, from August 1 to 7, the number of people who tested positive for covid-19 fell from 2,000 to 1,310, a further drop of 34%. By the last week of July, new infections were down 44%.
The testing campaign has also reduced the sail with the number of PCR tests falling from 7,787 to 6,314 last week. The average age of people with covid-19 is 44.1 years old.
A slight decline in hospitals
In addition to a drop in contaminations, a slight decrease in hospitalizations was also noted last week. Thus, in Luxembourg hospitals, 14 new admissions of positive patients took place in the normal care unit, compared to 17 the previous week. In intensive care, the number of occupied beds was two patients. The average age of hospitalized patients is 65 years old.
Also for the past week, 4 new deaths related to covid-19 infection have been replaced. The average age of the victims is 85 years old.
The vaccination campaign continues despite the lifting of the latest health restrictions. No less than 5,491 doses were administered last week. “15 people received a first dose, 52 received a second dose, 325 people received a first complementary dose compared to a complete regimen, 5,067 a second complementary dose compared to a complete regimen and 32 a third complementary dose compared to a complete scheme, bringing the total number of vaccines administered as of August 08 to 1,289,323”, can we read in the latest covid retrospective of Health.
This therefore means that 474,409 people have a complete vaccination schedule, which corresponds to a vaccination rate of 78.9% compared to the vaccinable population.
The passages of the “Impfbus on tour” are communicated on www.impfen.lu. Note that vaccination is done without an appointment (identity card and CNS card required). The type of vaccination offered is the primary and booster vaccination (booster dose).
It should also be remembered that the Victor Hugo vaccination center will close its doors on August 13 from 1 p.m. “People wishing to be vaccinated are also called upon to take advantage of the vaccination facilities offered by city offices (general practitioners and paediatricians), pharmacies and the Impfbus”, indicates the Ministry of Health.
