Souvenir from Sweden: a black viper in a car roof box
A family from Emmen who had vacationed in Sweden got more in their luggage than they had expected – a large and poisonous viper that was almost completely black in color.
The family found the snake when they got home and started unpacking the cargo box on the roof, their local animal ambulance said on social media.
Animal ambulance staff were able to remove the snake from its new home in the box using special leather gloves. “The viper was not happy to be taken away from its nice warm resting place and started biting the gloves, but without problem,” the animal rescue team said.
The snake was taken to a reptile sanctuary where experts will decide what to do with it.
Black vipers are found all over Scandinavia and are generally extremely shy, the animal ambulance post said.
