The “Remarkable Garden” label
Created in 2004 with the support of the National Parks and Gardens Council, the “Remarkable Garden” label is awarded by the Ministry of Culture for a renewable period of five years. “This State label meets demanding and quality criteria on the composition (organization of spaces), integration into the site and the quality of the surroundings, the remarkable elements (water, factories, plant architecture, etc.), the botanical interest, the historical interest, the reception of the public and the maintenance in the respect of the environmental quality”, indicates the ministry for the Culture on its Internet site. Labeled gardens must be open to visitors at least 40 days a year and 6 hours a day.
The label distinguishes gardens and parks, public or private, which are of cultural, aesthetic, historical or botanical interest. The holding of this label gives rise to various advantages such as signage of the site on roads and expressways, like historical monuments.
