There is an inexplicable magic in seeing the sun rise and we suggest two places that allow you to experience all the grandeur of nature.
Praia da Ribeira da Janela (Porto Moniz) is an enchanting stretch of roulade. In the middle of the water there are three large rock formations where the sun reveals itself when it rises. It’s a unique visualization of the sunbeams of these experiences stretching between nature’s installations.
The Cachalote Natural Pools (Porto Moniz) are very popular during the day, but a well-kept secret at dawn. Formed by nature, the water zones are interspersed with rock formations until they reach an infinity pool with a privileged view over the vast ocean. The sun rises on the horizon and makes the rays reflect in the clear water, rising among the true natural formations – a spectacle.
Enjoy the morning and go out to sea on an exclusive Sailing Boat experience with breakfast on board. A tour with stops on private beaches, unique access by sea and dolphin and whale sightings.

For those who prefer to walk, just follow the beautiful paths of Vereda do Fanal and Caminho Real do Paúl do Mar. The first route is 10.8 km and lasts 4 hours, starting at the Paul da Serra plateau (Assobiadores) and ending at the Fanal Forestry Post, crossing a vast area of Laurissilva Forest, classified as World Natural Heritage by the UNESCO (December 1999). Along the way, it is possible to visit the imposing and century-old forests of tis (Ocotea foetens) – with specimens that have survived since the discovery of the island.
The second route is shorter – only 1.8km and 1h20 long, almost always historical – and constitutes an authentic historic, winding to a hillside floor built by the people, agricultural poles, supported by stone walls, formerly cultivated in which cereal culture and panoramic landscapes predominated. At the end of the trail, it is possible to admire the great cliffs or dive to refresh.
For all ages, and with a more or less adventurous spirit, coasteering is a must. A unique experience to explore the coastline through walking, swimming, climbing and jumping – which can range from 1 to 10 meters. Along the way, you will enjoy stunning landscapes, imposing cliffs and a calm and crystalline sea.
