Figure skating | Plushenko thinks that Russia will help Margarita Drobyazko in case of deprivation of Lithuanian citizenship.
The figure skater may be deprived of citizenship for participating in the Tatyana Navka show
Two-time Olympic champion in figure skating Evgeni Plushenko commented on the news that the Lithuanian government may deprive figure skater Margarita Drobyazko of citizenship due to her participation in Tatyana Navka’s Swan Lake show.
“What a horror! What is going on in general? I think it’s outrageous. Well, what do athletes have to do with it? Especially since it’s a commercial show. Certain people go crazy. Although there is nothing surprising here. Will Russia help Margarita if she is deprived of her citizenship? I think it will help. Russia helps everyone,” Plushenko’s words were given to Match TV.
The initiative to deprive Drobiazko of citizenship was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis. She also has the opportunity to take away the state award – the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Gediminas, received by technology in 2000.
Margarita Drobyazko is a bronze medalist of the World Championship and a two-time winner of the European Ice Dancing Championship. She also won the Lithuanian Championship 13 times. The figure skater was born in Moscow, but received Lithuanian citizenship in order to compete in international competitions.
