Drought in Calvados: new restrictions imposed on the Côte de Nacre

Since July 22, 2022, the Department of Calvados is on drought alert. “Reinforced water restriction measures” have been enacted according to four zones: from vigilance to crisis. The region of Caen is placed mainly on “alert” or “enhanced alert” in the west. For these areas, authorizations for watering or car washing at the station may differ.
Beach showers cut
But some municipalities have decided to go a little further. Tuesday August 9, 2022, the town hall of Saint-Aubin-sur-Meron the Côte de Nacre, reminds us that “water is a precious commodity”.
Due to the drought, the showers and fountains of the town are cut. Watering of green spaces is suspended until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.
Beach showers are therefore concerned. Like those of the neighboring town of Langrune on the sea where the “beach shower at the aid station is closed as well as the water points at Place du 6 juin, Bois Joli and the cemetery. »
A Courseulles-sur-Mer, still since Tuesday, August 9, the municipality has stopped watering green spaces. The municipality which calls for “the greatest caution for the use of beach showers”. Similarly, boaters in the port are asked to use the water bridges only for “human needs”. » Rinsing or washing your boat is prohibited.
A little later in the day on Tuesday, it is the turn of Luke on the sea “to temporarily close its beach showers due to the drought that is currently affecting our territory and in order to preserve water resources. »
New measures to come?
Thursday August 11, 2022, a meeting of the “water resources” committee is scheduled at the Calvados prefecture in Caen. After this “progress report on the drought in the department”, it is not impossible that new restrictions will be announced.
