Alexander Djiku: Wanted Ghanaian defender commits to Strasbourg – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results
Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku wants to see out the rest of his contract with French side Strasbourg amid interest from several European clubs.
The 28-year-old starred as his side lost 2-1 at home to Monaco in the opener of the 2022-23 season.
Monaco gave themselves a boost of confidence ahead of next week’s crucial UEFA Champions League second leg at PSV Eindhoven with a battle victory in Alsace against a Strasbourg side tipped as an away bet for a top three finish this season.
Djiku’s future has been heavily speculated all summer as he nears leaving the club.
But the centre-back has remained a top professional, turning up for the team’s training despite the uncertainty surrounding his future.
After seeing his move to German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim fall apart due to a misunderstanding over his agent’s commission, the Ghanaian star has confirmed his desire to stay at Strasbourg.
“I’m in Strasbourg, I’m doing very well. I have one year left on my contract and I will do everything to stay here.” Djiku assured after the team’s defeat in Monaco.
After an impressive season in which he played 31 times in the league as Julien Stéphan’s men finished sixth in Ligue 1, the 27-year-old has attracted interest from clubs across Europe this summer, including Seville and Rennes.
His header against AS Monaco was voted the best goal of the month for March and was also voted the best Strasbourg goal of the season.
He was voted Ghanaian Footballer of the Year at the recent Ghana Football Awards after an outstanding season in Ligue 1 for Strasbourg.
