A new ban on exports of vegetable products from the Republic of Moldova to Russia. Transnistria, excepted from the rule
The Russian state phytosanitary agency Rosselhoznadzor ordered, on Tuesday, that from August 15 plant products from most of the districts of the Republic of Moldova, with the exception of the Transnistrian separatist regions, will no longer be imported into Russia.
The decision was motivated by the fact that Moldovan products “repeatedly violate quality standards”.
“Rosselhoznadzor is obliged to introduce temporary restrictions on the import of quarantineable plant products on the territory of the Russian Federation opened on August 15, 2022. The reason for the ban was the repeated detection of dangerous quarantine objects in Moldovan products entering Russia, about which the Moldovan side was previously informed . repeatedly by the service,” Rosselhoznadzor director Iulia Melano’s statement was quoted by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
According to Rosselkhoznadzor, in the period 2021 and 2022 in the plant products received from the Republic of Moldova on the territory of Russia, there were 93 cases of detection of quality irregularities that required the quarantine of product batches due to the presence of pests or pests.
This year, Moldova exported 168,000,000 tons of vegetable products to Russia, the largest volume being represented by apples, plums, grapes and cherries.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova has redirected even more exports to the European Union, where quotas for a number of fruits and vegetables have been increased precisely to help Moldovan farmers to be able to export their goods to the EU.
Exports from the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine and Russia have decreased considerably, including in the case of Moldovan apples that were exported, before the war, in a percentage of about 90% to the Russian market.
How the “communicator” Alexandru Rafila managed to hysterize an entire country when he invented a non-existent emergency regarding the distribution of iodine pills: panicked citizens and disorganized family doctors.
