Triplet of San Marino with Collecchio
Race 2, collecchio – san marino 5-6
Race 2 is from San Marino. The Italian Champions won the Saturday afternoon game 6-5 thanks to an excellent start of the attack and to the endurance in the final. Collecchio shortens with two homers, but what was decisive, on balance, was the home run from one point by Jesus Ustariz in the 5th. Peluso winning pitcher, Santana loser, salvation for Quattrini.
THE CHRONICLE. The San Marino attack begins in a devastating way and in a quarter of an hour from the start of the game, with an out on the scoreboard, it produces five points. Ferrini judges Santana’s first throws well and reaches the first after four balls, after him Celli touches a single and in the same way there is Angulo to hit the valid of the advantage: 1-0. Ustariz continues in the positive trend with the double of 2-0, while for Leonora there is the sprint of sacrifice that is worth 3-0. In the garage it is Pieternella’s turn and everything happens in her turn. First the right fielder of the Italian champions hits the foot on Santana’s second throw then, later in the count, he turns the bat in a masterly way for the two-point home run which is worth 5-0. For the foot bottle Pieternella will then have to go out and make room for Di Fabio.
In the lower part of a very long first inning, Collecchio immediately finds a way to shorten. The leadoff Mantovani, just like Ferrini, is on base after four balls. After him there is the out on Benetti but also the home run in the center of Monzon, a two-point hit worth 2-5. The home attack continues by filling the bases (double by Pasotto, ball bases by Di Raffaele to Calasso and Gamberini), but then the defense goes with a double game on Trolli’s rebound and closes the innings.
At 2nd San Marino did not produce any signatures despite two men in the point position and at 3rd Collecchio got closer. He does it with another two-point home run, the third in the series after the one in game1 and the homer at the start of game2. The author this time is Andrea Pasotto, who also pushes Monzon (double) home for the 4-5. He climbs up Mount Peluso which eliminates Calasso (bouncing on Ferrini), but then suffers the hits from Gamberini and Trolli. He men in the corners, but Lori soon after beats towards the first and Ustariz eliminates him without assistance.
Having escaped the danger, the Titans return to score in 5th with Jesus Ustariz’s solo-homer for 6-4. On Mount Peluso he ferries the game well for 2.2 innings after Di Raffaele’s 2.1. At 6th it was Renee Mazzocchi’s turn, who quickly eliminated Trolli, Lori and Coffrini. At 7th the pitcher himself puts Mantovani and Benetti (single) on the base, then Monzon beats in defense choice and Pasotto touches a single in the middle for the fifth Emilian point: 5-6. Danger, because in second there is the equal point and in first that of Collecchio’s victory.
San Marino relies on Gabriele Quattrini in the unprecedented guise of closer and the usual race 2 starter responds very well. Calasso is eliminated from the plate and on Gamberini’s sprint Pulzetti is ready. It ends 6-5.
