Toulouse and Haute Garonne. Water restriction: what you need to know about the measures that come into force

Whereas Toulouseand more generally the Department of Upper Garonne, experience record heat, drought continues to rage. The water use restrictions taken on July 28, 2022 are extended and strengthened from this Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at midnight. A decision taken by the prefect Etienne Guyot by prefectural decree.
Farmers, individuals, communities, professionals, all are affected by these restrictions. The direct withdrawals from watercourses and theuse of the drinking water network will therefore be restricted by several measures. Here’s why.
For uses from the drinking water network
All users of the drinking water network of Haute-Garonne are affected by measures to restrict the use of water from Tuesday August 9 at midnight. The prefecture has placed all the communes of the department on heightened alert (except the municipality of Saliès-du-Salat which is placed in a state of crisis). Here are the prohibitions that users will have to accept:
- the vehicle washing outside professional stations, except for vehicles with a regulatory obligation.
- the filling of swimming pools private. The Upgrade private swimming pools. The emptying of public swimming pools is subject to authorisation.
- Lawn watering, public and private green spaces, pleasure gardens, sports fields. Watering the vegetable gardens from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Public fountains open circuits must be closed, except those delivering drinking water.
- Road washing.
- Industrial activities and commercial must limit their water consumption to what is strictly necessary.
- The water withdrawal for the filling or maintaining the level of water bodies recreation for personal use.
- The emptying of bodies of water of any kind into waterways.
- A surveillance accumulate releases from treatment plants is prescribed.
For direct water samples and their accompanying water table
About the Specimens directly in the rivers, rivers and accompanying aquifers (underground water reserve in hydraulic connection with a watercourse), they will be prohibited on the following watercourses:
- The Garonne
- the Tarn
- L’Ariege
- the Volp and Salat
- the Saint-Martory Canal
- the Tescou
- Streams not fed (i.e., does not benefit from a new flow of water from another hydraulic source)
- The rivers connected to the Canal de la neste and derived channels
Underground samples located less than 100 meters of these cited watercourses and their tributaries are also prohibited.

The only exceptions to its restrictions relate to underground water withdrawals: fire fighting as well as the levy for theanimal watering and fish farming.
“We need to be extremely vigilant about our water consumption, whatever its use (domestic, industrial, agricultural). “says the prefecture.
