While the twelve-year-old chief’s son Winnetou (Mika Ullritz) already sees himself as a great warrior, his father Intschu tschuna (Mehmet Kurtulus) is of the opinion that his son should first learn to control his hot temper and take responsibility for others. When the absence of the buffalo poses an existential threat to the Apaches, Winnetou seizes the opportunity to prove himself to his father. To do this, he has to come to terms with the orphan boy Tom (Milo Haaf) and embark on a dangerous adventure, because only together with him and with the support of his sister Nscho-tschi (Lola Linnéa Padotzke) can Winnetou save the Apache people.
THE YOUNG CHIEF WINNETOU is a great adventure for the whole family and all generations! Everyone knows the novels about Winnetou & Co. by Karl May, the most widely read German-language writer with over 100 million copies sold. Karl May’s books have been translated into 47 languages. Now director Mike Marzuk (including “Family Five”), based loosely on Karl May and a screenplay written by Gesa Scheibner and himself, tells the story of the still young Winnetou, who has to learn important lessons about friendship, loyalty and courage before he can become the chief of his tribe can be.
Under the successful producers Ewa Karlström and Andreas Ulmke-Smeaton (FRIENDLY FIVE, EASTERN WIND, THE WILD GUYS), the film was shot with great effort and great attention to detail in Andalusia, where the most famous heroes of the Western genre once rode through the prairie. In addition to the young leading actors Mika Ullritz (FACK JU GÖHTE 3), Milo Haaf in his film debut and Lola Linnéa Padotzke (MARIA MAFIOSI), prominent actors round off the excellent role: Mehmet Kurtulus (INTO THE NIGHT) as Chief Intschuna, Anatole Taubman (DARK ) as bandit boss Todd Crow, Tim Oliver Schultz (RED BANDS CLUB) as warrior Nagi-nita, Hildegard Schmahl (THE TASTE OF APPLE KERNENS) as tribal elder Sikari-zinu, Daniel Christensen (KAISERSCHMARRNDRAMA) and Michael Kranz (BRIDGE OF SPIES – THE NEGOTIATOR ) as crook duo Butch and Freddy, Helmfried von Lüttichau (HUBERT UND STALLER) as Sheriff Watson and many more.
THE YOUNG CHIEF WINNETOU is a SAMFILM production in co-production with LEONINE Studios and Studio Babelsberg. The film was funded by the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern (FFF), the Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA) and the German Film Fund (DFFF).
