SNAPSHOT: Finnair 1337 Helsinki – London Heathrow (A330/Business Class)
It’s time to take another snapshot, this time focusing on the passenger experience in between Helsinki and London Heathrow on Finnair AY1337.
In case you’ve forgotten how we write travel writing in and out of economy class, I have two main travel writing styles:
- Travel reports – These are the perfect in-depth reports that take you to the experiences and the little things… and the big things!
- Snapshots – These are bite-sized reviews that show you the basic product in nice gentle headlines (and usually just phone pictures).
Today we are Situation picture. A full in-depth review is in the works (it’s almost done – time is a mixed blessing at the moment).
Register
Check-in was done at Helsinki Airport. I used the automated machines for this purpose (didn’t realize there was a separate business class check-in area).
Safety
The security process at Helsinki-Vantaa airport was very strict, as CT scanners are in use at the airport – meaning bags do not need to be unpacked and they can go through as they are.
From here. I continued along the Schengen area to the passport control and to the non-Schengen area.
Lounge
Finnair’s Business Class Non-Schengen lounge was used during my lounge visit. This lounge has been expanded since I was here in 2019 and a completely new lounge section has been built and opened.
Embarkation
We boarded at Helsinki-Vantaa’s new platform from gate 48. During the boarding process, separate zones were available for privileged and normal passengers.
Aircraft
The aircraft was an Airbus A330-300.
Seat
This Airbus A330-300 was fitted with the older Thomson Vantage Seat. The seats in this cabin were five-section, and the cabin had seen better days.
IFE
The IFE did not work on this and a few other seats in the cabin. Fortunately, the conditions outside were mostly clear for nature to provide IFE.
This plane also had Nordic Sky installed with Panasonic’s connection system. A reasonably large bandwidth was available.
Food and drink
After the removal, drinks and a hot towel service were offered.
Lunch was served in this service – pasta in olive oil, with a spicy shrimp curry. This was served with a goat cheese starter. bread was served together with a prepackaged dessert product.
There were several drinking parties.
Landing and immigration
Although the plane landed early at Heathrow Airport, the plane was diverted to a holding area with a scheduled 40-minute layover due to the lack of gates at Terminal 3. During this time, the captain closed the seat belt sign. passengers can move around the cabin and use the facilities.
The plane was eventually diverted to the gate and finally docked about 50 minutes after landing. The exit was delayed due to a lack of ground staff.
The UK border was less than orderly.
In total, without luggage, it took 1 hour and 21 minutes from landing to leaving the airport area.
