Political ticker: Christine Oppitz-Plörer in 72nd place on the VP state list
The campaigning groups present their district and state lists on an ongoing basis. The Tyrolean ÖVP has also approved its state list in the party committees and presented it to the public. Somewhat surprisingly, the “Für Innsbruck” city councilor Christine Oppitz-Plörer is in 72nd place on the state list.
INNSBRUCK. “The lower places on the list also underline the reliable and stable course on which the provincial governor candidate is setting. On the symbolic 72nd place, for example, is the former Innsbruck mayor and economic councilor Christine Oppitz-Plörer, who clearly supports the Tyrolean People’s Party and LH -Candidate Anton Mattle presents upcoming state elections.” This is how Christine Oppitz-Plörer’s candidacy is described in the ÖVP’s broadcast. Toni Mattle and Sonja Ledl-Rossmann are listed on the state list, including Franz Jirka (WK Innsbruck chairman) in 21st place and vice mayor. Johannes Anzengruber in 49th place. The candidate for the front woman of the “For Innsbruck” list is a surprise when you look at history despite everything.

Christine Oppitz-Plörer has not only shaped the history of city politics, but as city councilor she still has a decisive creative function. Oppitz-Plörer was elected to the municipal council of Innsbruck in 2000 and second vice mayor in June 2009. On March 8, 2010, she was elected mayor of Innsbruck by the municipal council, succeeding Hilde Zach. On April 29, 2012, Oppitz-Plörer was re-elected mayor in a direct election. As part of the runoff, Oppitz-Plörer distanced himself from the state ÖVP, which clearly supported Christoph Platzgummer. A city coalition of Für Innsbruck with the Greens and the SPÖ followed. The ÖVP was sent into opposition for the first time since 1945.
ÖVP against FI
The tensions between the mayor and the state ÖVP led to Oppitz-Plörer being stripped of his seat on the state party executive of the ÖVP and announcing that the Für-Innsbruck mandataries could no longer be party congress delegates. The party was not expelled for the time being, but later automatically lost the ÖVP membership by virtue of the statute of the Tyrolean People’s Party[. The request for dismissal was submitted by Rudi Federspiel (FPÖ) and the Just Innsbruck List (GI) and supported in the vote by the Greens, the Right Innsbruck, FPÖ, ALI, NEOS and the Fritz List.

For Innsbruck
For Innsbruck (FI) was founded in 1994 by Herwig van Staa under the motto “The colorful ravens”. Herwig van Staa became a municipal councilor for the ÖVP in 1989, but was thrown out of the VP municipal council club in 1993. In the 2000 local council elections, the FI list succeeded in winning an absolute majority in Innsbruck together with the ÖVP and the list of the Tyrolean Senior Citizens’ Association. After Herwig van Staa was elected governor of Tyrol by the ÖVP, Hilde Zach succeeded him as mayor of Innsbruck in 2002. In the local council elections on April 23, 2006, Für Innsbruck was again the party with the most votes. On May 8, 2006, Hilde Zach was elected mayor by a yellow-black-red coalition in the local council for another six years. In the Innsbruck municipal council, the lists “Für Innsbruck” (7), ÖVP Innsbruck (5) and the Tyrolean Senior Citizens’ Association (1) have a total of 13 municipal council seats and would thus overtake the group with the most votes (Greens, 10 seats).
