MERCATO | Towards a loan from Malang Sarr (Chelsea) to Monaco
Chelsea and AS Monaco have reached an agreement for the loan of Malang Sarr. The Monegasque club only has to come to an agreement with the player.
Malang Sarr is expected to return to Ligue 1. According to information from AthleticismChelsea and Monaco have verbally agreed that the French defender will be loaned out with a mandatory €15m option to buy if certain conditions are met (such as the number of games played by Sarr).
Athleticism specifies that there are still a few details to be settled to finalize the loan. Malang Sarr is expected in Monaco within the next 48 hours and has signed a five-year contract ahead of the mandatory purchase option.
Born and trained in Nice, Sarr joined Chelsea in the summer of 2020 but was immediately loaned out to FC Porto but failed to establish himself there, playing just eight games in the Portuguese league. Last season, he failed to convince Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea and only made eight Premier League appearances.
This weekend, on the opening day of the Premier League, Sarr was not among the 20 players called up for Chelsea’s game at Everton.
With the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly and the fact that Chelsea are trying to sign two other defenders (Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana), Sarr knows that he will not have much playing time this season with the Blues and hopes to revive his career in Monaco.
