Fires in Rome today Monday 8 August 2022
A high column of black smoke enveloped the skies of the southwest quadrant of the capital. It was caused by some waste that caught fire following a fire that broke out from some uncultivated fields on via della Magliana (height at civic 850) close to the hill where the Muratella kennel is located where the volunteers – in aid of firefighters and civil protection – they defended the area with pipes and buckets of water with the smoke that then spread also near some houses in the area. In order to allow the intervention of the rescuers, it was necessary to close a section of the road of the Arvalia municipality in both directions near the Muratella station.
In particular, the fire broke out around 1:20 pm on Monday 8 August. Favored by the wind and the heat, the flames, after starting from some scrub, have affected an area where there is an illegal landfill. Hence the black smoke, emanating from some tires, mudguards and other waste material.
Two fire brigade teams from the provincial command of Rome and civil protection volunteers intervened on the spot, coordinated by the dos (extinguishing operations management) with the help of a helicopter from the Lazio Region.
“Thanks to the intervention of the firefighters and the work of some volunteers in the kennel, the fire was immediately limited – explains Rita Bignami, a volunteer of the Lega del Cane of the Ostia section -. The hill behind the kennel caught fire, like everyone else. years”.
